DIMBAINIMIBOFA NESTA CALLS FOR UNITY AMONGST ALL NIGER DELTA LEADERS

Peace is a requisite element for the growth and development of any society. That is if any family, community, state, or even a country desire to move forward, then the ingredient of peace must be present in its meal.

More so, whereas there is a need for peace to advance the cause of society, there is an equal need for unity and justice to sustain the peace. This is because there can be no true peace in the absence of justice. Therefore, even as the world searches for peace, there must also be a concerted effort for the enthronement of justice in the society.

The Niger Delta Region of Nigeria over the years has been labelled as a hostile region by the Nigerian State. Although this assertion is erroneously conceived because the indices used in arriving at this obnoxious conclusion only considered the presence of violence and agitations while neglecting the most vital ingredients of peace; which are justice and equity.

It should be noted that peace is not necessarily the absence of war or violence, but the presence of justice. Put differently, one cannot expect peace and tranquillity in an atmosphere where injustice thrives.

It is no news that the Niger Delta is the hen that lays the golden egg, but sadly that same hen could not even eat a clay egg of its. To us, this is an injustice of the highest order.

To this end and going by the level of marginalization, intimidation, and oppression meted on the region by the imperialist State of Nigeria in the juxtaposition of the relative peace in the said hostile region, an independent and unbiased mind would submit that the Niger Delta Region is the most peaceful in the country.

At times when reflecting soberly, one may be tempted to conclude that our peaceful and accommodating disposition is the bane of our being oppressed and backwardness, yet some chronically disposed of enemies have the guts to call us belligerent people.

Naturally, the people of the Niger Delta should be hostile, because a situation whereby people that feed the nation cannot be allowed to eat even the crumbs, is nothing but an invitation to anarchy.

However, the only sin that seems to be committed by the people of the Niger Delta, like the Biblical Esau who broke the york of Jacob off his neck, is the resolve of the people to say an affirmative No to the continued plundering of our God-given wealth by the Northern Oligarchs incorporations with some misfits around the oil-rich region.

Note, it is not just for the perceived injustice but the realistic oppression by the Nigerian State that made the likes of Late Major Jasper Isaac Adaka Boro of blessed memory to take up arms against the Nigerian State in 1966, in the famous 12 days revolution.

It is also in the same spirit of brotherhood that the renowned environmental activist Late Ken Sarowiwa of blessed memory continued the emancipation struggle though with the pen. But no thanks to Late Gen.Sani Abacha of sad memory who rewarded him and nine other prominent Ogoni sons with the hangman in December 1995, which elicited wide condemnation from the international community.

It is, therefore, in the foregoing that I am calling on all Niger Delta leaders of the sort to close ranks and collapse their individuality orchestrated by some greedy political differences into a cohesive whole. If we are to win this war of marginalization, intimidation, oppression, and above all injustice, then we shouldn't be further divided along party lines, religion, tribe, etc. This is because over the years these tools have been what the enemies had used to divide and rule us.

Consequently, at this point in our emancipation peregrination, we cannot afford the luxury of caving into the cheap blackmail of the enemies.

Unarguably, it is with the tool of unity and brotherhood that as a people with a common patrimony we can subdue, suppress, and conquer, in order to restore prosperity and hope to our people. It should be noted that no one Niger Deltan can solely liberate the region from this age-long internal colonialism, hence our collective contribution.

Therefore, I call on those who are gifted with the pen to prepare, cos a day shall come when your services would be required. Those gifted with wisdom should as well prepare, cos a day shall come when your wise counsel would be sorted. Those possessed with the spirit of craftsmanship, don't worry cos your services shall be needed someday. The traditionalists, be in the waiting for we shall send for you.

And above all the worshippers of the Most High God, your prayers are what we need to see us through in this journey to freedom.

On a final note, to all Niger Deltans, we most owe it a duty to our fatherland to remain united, because united we will stand, and divided we will surely fall.

Signed.
