International Day Of Peace Goodwill Message By Obukome Ibru-Mukoro

As we approach the end of a day of yet another ‘International Day of Peace’, we almost certainly count it as another day achieved. That’s a prayer of grace because there are many who seem to be constantly, even if just in the last few years, very far from experiencing peace in their lives, in their environments.

Some are victims of wars and communal clashes; others are victims of situations that should otherwise be regarded as small disagreements and disputes. But, no matter the source of the strife, we all would be happier without them. We all would rather live in a world devoid of hatred if we could!

As Africans, it certainly has not been easy, and the general belief is that a total systemic overhaul is what is needed. Yet, we see young people who are sometimes even angrier than the angry old ones! It gets more confusing every day, as we seek answers to the already existing issues.

As we approach yet another election year, as Nigerians, this is a time when more than ever, we need to find and embrace peace. We need to find and embrace brotherliness that transcends tribe and religion, a brotherliness that understands that we are stronger together and we all need one another, a brotherliness of truth and sincerity; one that is in our collective best interests, as a people, as a great nation.

Every Nigerian has been affected in one way or the other, by these issues, so many! We cannot continue to bring our own house down. We cannot continue to live in fear and distrust, enough is enough!

May the coming elections not be a reason for further division, it should be reason to come together to unite in the effort to solve our collective issues.

Nigerians, let us work together as one people.

Let us collectively make Nigeria great again!

Happy International Day of Peace 2022.

It’s time to smile again!
